A Little History
Aromatherapy has always big a widely popular invention. It’s been around since the beginning of recorded history. It’s been used by the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and just about every culture in the world. The oil is obtained from the peel of the fruit by steam distillation.
Native to China and cultivated throughout America, sweet oranges are one of the world’s favorite fruits. It’s generally non-toxic but if the peel is consumed in large amounts, it can be fatal.

The use of orange essential oil has always been a favorite in producing feelings of happiness and well-being. It’s often used in a diffuser alone or with a variety of other oils to create a harmonious and welcoming atmosphere in the home.
By the way, if you’re looking for a diffuser to use your oils in, this one is recommended. Other aromatherapy applications include light bulb rings, bath and misting sprays.
The consumption of oranges can provide many benefits to the inside of our bodies while using the oil made from the peel of the fruit is fantastic for the outside of our bodies. Not to mention a treat for the olfactory sense.
Topical and Olfactory Uses
The topical application of orange essential oil has proven to lighten dark spots, provide antibacterial benefits, relieve aches, and even help minimize the look of cellulite. Sweet Orange essential oil is a cooling, purifying, antiviral oil that is also used as a astringent and disinfectant.
I love to put this oil in my facial moisturizer as a brightening and tightening agent for the skin.
Breathing in the wonderful scent can immediately uplift, bring about alertness and mental clarity.
Other uses for this oil include aiding in digestion, using as an antiseptic and it’s admired for its laxative qualities. It is important to note that some essential oils are considered phototoxic, meaning when mixed with sunlight, a possible reaction may occur.
In addition, while orange essential can be used topically, some people with sensitive skin may need to use a carrier oil.
Sweet orange essential oil can be paired beautifully with Clove, Lemon, Lavender, Clary Sage, Neroli, Cinnamon, and Bergamot. It’s truly a universal essential oil with amazing qualities.
