Have you ever wondered why you can’t shake something off? Or why a particular thing seems to stay with you? If you’ve got a thorn in your side, could it actually be a blessing?
Life can be complicated and the struggle is real. Occasionally, we find ourselves with a “something” that continually stays with us. It’s a thorn that seems to poke at us without relent. It sits there rearing up its ugly head every so often, reminding us of its existence. It might be a task or duty, it might be a person or place, it might be a sickness or even a faulty way of thinking. No matter what it is, it just won’t let go.
If this is the case for you, maybe it’s time to ask yourself, do I have this thorn for a purpose? Where would I be without this thorn? Is it something that keeps you close to God and without it, you might slip and falter? God does amazing things to keep up in close connection to Him.
Paul speaks of the thorn in his flesh in 2 Corinthians 12:7-9. Paul says, “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.”
It seems to me that this “thorn” keeps Paul humble and in right standing with God. Blessings come in many forms and whatever you might be facing could surely be a gift from God. If you allow yourself to be open to the idea that it is a good thing, you just might see a miracle in your life or someone else.
I encourage you to take a moment and seek God for revelation. Maybe He will reveal His purpose and maybe He won’t but what we must remember is His ways are higher and His purpose is always good.
In His Grace,
